HEALTH PROGRAMME 2015: Come offa that mobile phone! A recent study by researchers from Kent State University shows that listening to music during your workout optimises exercise results but using your mobile phone (e.g for texting while on a treadmill) decreases it. No way Sherlock! But this is all backed up by further studies by professors from Brunel University School of Sport and Education who claim that music leads your mind away from negatives thoughts associated with effort and makes you concentrate on the rhythm and melodic peaks thus making you train for longer and more intensely. So the only time you should be using your phone is with headphones attached and the Rocky theme tune blaring out! And yep that’s for you – all you phone-hugging lounge lizards out there
